breaking the silence

It’s been over two weeks since my last post which is much longer than I ever intended to go without posting, but that is life. Like most of you, I’m still in total and utter disbelief over the results of the presidential election. It was a heartbreak like that I’ve never experienced, and I haven’t had the spirits to get back in the kitchen no matter how positive I try to be. Well, that, and my fridge and freezer died last week so I’m actually incapable of grocery shopping while I wait for repairs. That, paired with the seasonal affective disorder that usually strikes around this time of year (why so dark so early??), and I could really use some hugs. Additionally, I want to hug all of you. All of you who fought the good fight, and still are fighting for women, immigrants, people of color, LGBTQ people and human beings in general. I’m inspired by all of you to stop sulking and start being louder and prouder. Kinder and wiser. So today I made a happy list because first things first it’s time to stop being so sad. Here’s a bunch of stuff that makes me grin uncontrollably.

-All the women who WON on Election Day. Looking at you Ilhan Omar, Tammy Duckworth, Catherine Cortez Masto, Kate Brown and Kamala Harris.
-The Hamilton soundtrack. Couldn’t pick a favorite track if I tried.
-The Hamilton mixtape. Immigrants (We Get the Job Done) is so much yes.
-The impending Gilmore Girls reunion.
-New York. My City. My people. Now, more than ever I’m reminded why I was drawn to you in the first place.
-Tacky Christmas decorations and the fact that my family is coming to ME this year for the holidays.
-The realization that I can comfortably fit a 12-foot tall tree in my apartment.
-The current weather perfection New York is experiencing, Hope I didn’t jinx it.
-Being basic. Eating all the pumpkin spice Siggi’s yogurt.
-Building on that, the care package of pumpkin spice peanut butter my mom just sent me.
-Persimmons. Persimmons dipped in pumpkin spice peanut butter.
-Being a woman. Because no matter how much shit we still have to endure, we still run the world.
-My Fall/Winter reading list: Currently on this one. Up next, this, then this and this.
-Obama and Biden bromance memes.
-My newly acquired French press.
-But also Nescafé Classico instant coffee when mood strikes.
-Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor are still together.
-Knee high boots. They do not look good on me but all you ladies (and gents) rocking knee high boots out there keep on doing it. You look amazing.
-Kate McKinnon.

I feel better already. Maybe I’ll cook something tomorrow.
